The word Maidah in Surah Al Maidah appears in verse 112 of this Surah, which gives it its name. Like the names of numerous other surahs, this name has no exceptional connection to the subject of the Surah yet has been utilized simply as an image to recognize it from other surahs.

The Islamic State had expanded to include Najd on the east, the Red Sea on the west, Syria on the north, and Makkah on the south after the shock of the setback at Uhud had rendered the surroundings of Al-Madinah dangerous for Muslims. The Muslims’ determination had not wavered despite the setback they had experienced at Uhud. It motivated them to take action. The power is the result of their unending struggle and unmatched sacrifices. Within a 200-mile radius, the surrounding clans had been decimated.

In Zil-Qaadah 6, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) went to Makkah with 1400 Muslims to perform Umrah. However, the Quraish, motivated by their hostility, prevented him from doing so, even though it was completely against all of Arabia’s ancient religious traditions. A treaty was reached at Hudaibiyah after a lot of arduous negotiations, and it was agreed that he could perform Umrah the following year.

That was an excellent time to instruct Muslims on the proper way to make a pilgrimage to Makkah with true Islamic dignity and to warn them that they should not stop the disbelievers from making the pilgrimage to Makkah as a way to punish them. Since many nonbelievers had to travel through Muslim territory on their way to Makkah, this was not at all difficult. 

Surah Al Maidah Ayat 114

Surah Al Maidah narrates that the Jews in other parts of Hijaz had become tributaries of the State of Al-Madinah, eliminating the Jewish threat that had always threatened Al-Madinah. The Quraish had failed in their final attempt to suppress Islam at the Battle of the Trench. The Arabs had come to realize that no power could stop the Islamic movement after this. Now, Islam was more than just a creed that controlled people’s minds and hearts; it was also a state that controlled everyone who lived within its boundaries in every way. The Muslims had been able to live their lives by their beliefs without being constrained in any way.
